Church of Ireland Bishop of Cork backs Equal Marriage

In an interview on BBC Radio Ulster’s ‘Sunday Sequence’ programme on Sunday 18th May, the Bishop of Cork, Dr. Paul Colton, voiced his support for the introduction of civil marriage for same-sex couples. Dr. Colton is the first Church of Ireland bishop to publicly support Equal Marriage.

Dr. Richard O’Leary, Chair of Changing Attitude Ireland issued a statement of support for Bishop Colton: “The bishop’s acknowledgement of the hurt that the church has inflicted on its gay and lesbian members is greatly appreciated, especially as it comes on the day we are holding services to mark the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT)”.
