New Patron Assumes Role at IDAHOT Service in Dublin

Bishop Walton Empey,former  Archbishop of Dublin, became a Patron of Changing Attitude Ireland, at the IDAHOT service on Sunday 21 May 2017 in Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin. In his acceptance speech, Bishop Empey expressed his delight at assuming this new role, saying he felt it right, at this time, to play his part in the work of Changing Attitude Ireland.  The service was led by the dean, the Very Revd. Dermot Dunne and the guest preacher was the Revd. Dr Brendan McCarthy National Adviser on Medical Ethics to the Church of England and Priest-in-Charge of the North Leitrim Group of Parishes, who spoke on the topic of Love is Love. In the course of his address, Dr McCarthy told of how he himself came to alter his outlook on the position of LGBT+ individuals and couples within the life of the Church and now whole-heartedly welcomes and supports them as members of the family of God. Bishop Empey is pictured here, on the left, with Revd McCarthy and The Dean at the IDAHOT service in Christ Church Cathedral.
